July is a month of fateful changes, one that will witness Uranus entering Gemini for the first time since 1949, while three other heavenly bodies will turn retrograde before all is said and done.
The first shift occurs on the 4th when Neptune turns retrograde in Aries. Neptune is a generational planet, and only recently arrived in Aries earlier this year, with the last time this occurred being all the way back circa the American Civil War in the mid-19th century. Neptune is a spiritual planet, one that can delve into fantasy, dreams, inspiration, and all kinds of creative endeavors, but it can also lead us down paths of temptation and cause us to avoid certain responsibilities, choosing escapism over reality.
Neptune in Aries has little time for all that, and instead of giving agency away, it wants to find new ways to take action in areas that are regularly ones of inaction. Neptune will actually back up into Pisces for one final visit later this year, where it has operated for the last decade and a half, and is perfectly happy to give up control, but rather than throwing us back into our old ways, this retrograde will make it clear why they weren’t working in the first place. One example of Neptune in Pisces energy would be constant scrolling and focusing on screens, listening to whomever has the biggest platform, and generally accepting technology’s presence in our lives without drawing a line or creating boundaries; all this is going to be changing with Neptune in Aries, but we’ve got one final look in the rearview mirror before we can move on entirely.
Also on the 4th, loving Venus makes its own moves as it decamps from slow-and-steady Taurus to mile-a-minute Gemini, where it will be spinning until the end of the month. This is a very flirty cycle, when the Goddess of Love wants to be mentally stimulated, not just emotionally or physically, and can create more reasons to bounce around and get to know as many people as you can. New connections created during this time can have terrific benefits, both romantically and financially, so be your friendliest self.
The 7th brings the last important planetary shift of 2025, when Uranus leaves behind Taurus and enters Gemini. Since Pluto settled into Aquarius late last year, one outer planet after another has been switching signs, with Neptune and Saturn both entering Aries, and now Uranus finally entering Gemini; it is incredibly rare for all the outer “generational” planets to switch signs so closely like this, and is truly setting us up for a new era unlike any that has come before. Uranus will be dipping its toe in Gemini for a few months before retrograding back into Taurus for one final tour later this year, but there are plenty of things to pay attention to in the meantime.
Uranus is the planet of change, and Gemini is all about communication and how we connect with others, so this cycle is going to wildly transform the way we utilize technology, disseminate news, and decipher truth from fiction. For the first couple years of this transit, Uranus will be flowing in a harmonious trine to Pluto in Aquarius, while making supportive sextile to Neptune and Saturn in Aries, so there is a good chance we will find positive and useful ways to implement these changes, but Uranus never plays by the book, so that doesn’t mean surprises won’t be in store, regardless.
The energy becomes much more grounded on the 10th, when the Capricorn Full Moon lights up the skies. Capricorn is all about getting work done and putting in the necessary hours in order to rise to the top or present yourself as an authority in your chosen field. Under this lunation, we are being invited to present our most mature and accomplished selves, and take stock of how far we have come, but what else we can still do to further our accomplishments.
On the 13th, Saturn will follow Neptune’s example and turn retrograde in Aries, and like Neptune, it will also be returning to Pisces for a couple month farewell tour before 2025 comes to a close. Saturn is at its detriment in Aries, meaning it is least comfortable; Saturn is all about structure, while Aries is all about charging ahead and thinking after, so this combination isn’t the easiest to handle. Fortunately, with Saturn moving backwards, it will be easier to handle these juxtaposed energies and make new adaptations and allowances for how our world is changing, and we ourselves along with it.
Hold your horses on the 18th; messenger Mercury is turning retrograde in Leo for the next three weeks, meaning it is important to follow the usual rule of thumb: don’t sign any new contracts, don’t make any new important agreements, avoid major spending especially when it comes to technology, and definitely think before you speak, lest you wind up with your foot in your mouth. Mercury in Leo is an especially expressive and creative combination, so the best way to make use of this transit is return to old projects or hobbies that bring you a lot of joy, but rather than jumping into the spotlight just yet, use this time to refine your skills and work before moving center stage after Mercury turns direct in early August.
The Sun will enter Leo for its month tour on the 22nd, exchanging its comfy house coat of Cancer season for something with a little more sparkle.
